Our Design Philosophy
At Prue Metcalfe Gardens & Design, our gardens are designed with balance, space, colour, movement, style and texture. We specialise in Dry Tolerant design with an emphasis on Contemporary, English, and Mediterranean styles for large acreage, and small to medium properties.
The underlying intention when designing your garden is to evoke ambience and style to suit your lifestyle and home. We assist you to achieve this by creating an individual garden, using plants, features and construction materials to create an outdoor space that you will love.
Your garden will be designed to achieve an overall appearance and ambience with a good balance of hard surfaces, furniture, garden beds, water, space and height. The plants will enhance the space to give you a haven that has spirit and harmony.
Dry Tolerant Gardens
A vast majority of our designs use the principles of Dry Tolerant design. Our use of plant selection, soil preparation and plant positioning maintains the central character of whatever style you prefer but with low maintenance and, of course, low water use.
Contemporary Gardens
Contemporary gardens have strong visual impact. We love the boldness in creating a design based on pattern and mass planting. Using only a minimal variety of plants with strong contrast and structure it creates a dynamic effect perfect for a modern house, apartment block or commercial site.
English Gardens
This is a style of garden that invokes visions of lushness and tranquility. It combines a balance of the softness of curves and the formality of structure. This is achieved both with the design layout and the plants chosen to enhance it.
Mediterranean Gardens
Mediterranean gardens are bright and stark and provide hot spots to laze and cool spots to escape from the heat. They are rich in colour and texture, both in the selection of plants used and the surface finishes.
